Project 2: Baby Wrap
January 10, 2011I don’t have children of my own (yet?) but I watch a little girl three days per week in my home. While I’m happy to spend whole days in the rocking chair with her, there are times when I need to be out and about. On those days I’m sure it would be helpful to have a baby wrap, or a sling, so I can carry her more easily.
This week I’ll be buying fabric for the first time in over a decade, and, with the help of a friend, sewing at least one kind of sling for the baby. You can also watch as I try my best to learn how to wear this baby so she and I can both be comfortable and secure. I hope my seams hold!
I really like my baby K’tan, and it would be relatively easy to reproduce (though the similar Moby wrap would be easier.) It uses a strong but stretchy jersey-type fabric. Just, y’know, if you want to try something else. (I didn’t purchase a Moby because the wrapping is daunting to me, while the K’tan is just two loops that you manipulate where you want them for different holds. The down side to the K’tan is that it is sized to a person, while the same Moby can be used by anyone.)
