Project 45: Finished calendar and lessons learned

December 21, 2011

Calendar wall hanging

Here it is! This was a quick project. I enjoyed printing my own fabric and imagining a finished project around it. Designing your own fabric has gotten so accessible that anyone can do it. You can even print it at your house. Yay technology!

Lessons learned:
– It helps to have the right equipment so you don’t end up knocking on a friend’s door in search of a color printer at the last minute.
– It helps to have good friends.
–  With advances in technology and the vast amount of supplies available to us, we really can make anything our imaginations can dream up. Go create!

Next up: a guest series from an intrepid friend. Are you ready?

Project 45: Crochet edging

December 21, 2011

Crochet edging

Several months ago I found a tutorial for adding a crochet detail to a tea towel and I really wanted to find a project to go with it. This seemed like a good time to try it out. It was super simple. I think I may add crocheted edges to all sorts of things now.

Check back later today for the finished calendar!

Project 7: Done! and lessons learned

February 18, 2011

Completed flower scarf

Finished! This scarf came together really quickly. The flowers were easy and fun to make, and once I got the hang of connecting them I finished in no time. It is lovely and fun and will soon be winging its way across the country to its (surprise) recipient. I hope she likes it!

Lessons learned:
– Ah, yarn. I’m most comfortable working with yarn. I hadn’t crocheted in a while, but after relearning the lingo so I could follow a pattern it all came right back.
– There is a great satisfaction in working on a project all week and finishing it on time. Maybe I’ll carry this lesson on to future projects.
– I should have been making things more often. I’ve known how to crochet since I was a kid. Why don’t I do it more often?

I’m considering digging out the old cabbage patch doll dress that I crocheted when I was little. It’s in a box around here somewhere. I’ll post a photo when I find it.

Next week: I haven’t decided yet. I have another sewing project on the schedule but I may rearrange it and do something else. Stay tuned!

Project 7: Almost done!

Scarf in progress

I’ve joined all of my flowers and now I’m just adding a border around the outside so they will hold their shape a little bit better. The yarn I chose (caution: audio) is soft and slippery and doesn’t hold much shape on its own.

I should have time to finish the border today. Check back for the finished scarf!

Project 7: Flower progress

Finished flowers

I have completed 36 flowers based on this motif pattern. I laid them out on the living room floor last night and they will make a nice long scarf. Now I just need to figure out how I want to join them.

Project 7: Flower scarf

February 14, 2011

Flower scarf by Furya

This week I’m going to crochet some flowers to make a flower scarf. I was originally inspired by the 100 flower scarf pattern but I changed my mind about the pattern when I saw these mini motifs. There is something about the openness of the design that I like.

I’ve already purchased my yarn and started making flowers this weekend. I’ll keep plugging away and will hopefully have a completed scarf by the end of the week. Check back for updates!
